Data Analytics Engineer

Position summary:

At Rainforest Alliance, we utilize data to make informed decisions. Through our Data Analytics Platform (DAP), we provide access to crucial data. The data engineering team is a team with a primary focus on development of data pipelines, and technical components of the DAP. This role focuses on ETL data pipeline development. But as a successful data team we also need data and business analysis skills.

This means there is also space for people who are more focused on data analysis and design or testing, but we expect some technical background as well.

The candidate should possess most of the technical skills to

  • Analyse and clarify requirements with data owners and users
  • Understand relational and conceptual information modelling techniques, especially Data Vault and dimensional modelling.
  • Build data pipelines using SQL and scripting languages
  • Deliver and test data sets and reports to agreed levels of accuracy and completeness
  • Design and build data warehouse components and quality monitoring solutions
  • Maintain code bases and tools that make up the data analytics environment
  • Understand processes that ensure structured and quality delivery

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the business requirements and data models from the source systems that feed the DAP
  • Develop, maintain and improve the pipelines into the data analytics platform using procedural SQL, ETL, data virtualization, and databases
  • Develop, maintain and improve the data connections between data sources and the data analytics platform, using Terraform and Azure tools, together with the data platform engineer
  • Follow processes and maintain version control over the code assets within the data analytics platform
  • Be an active participant in the sprint planning and goal definition activities within the Data Excellence team
  • Review process, architectural, information and data models in collaboration with the Data Architect, Data Engineers, and the rest of the Data Excellence team

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant data engineering work experience.
  • Ability to program in procedural SQL, and automation using scripting languages
  • Working experience with business intelligence platforms, data models, and test case design
  • Working experience with Azure server infrastructure and Microsoft databases
  • Working experience with Data Vault and dimensional modelling
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile methodologies and working independently as a member of a virtual team
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and business minded colleagues.
  • Pro-active attitude and an ability to remain organized under deadlines and see projects to completion.
  • Experience of environments where improvements led to increased data flow and a reduction of lead times and errors
  • English fluency

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Familiarity with topics relevant to the work of Rainforest Alliance and certification is a strong plus
  • Experience with Data Virtuality software and ANSI SQL
  • Experience with Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse)
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory
  • Ability to build reports and datasets using Power BI, Power Query and DAX
  • Experience with designing and consuming Rest API’s for loading data changes from source systems

Internal Compliance Manager (Africa)

Position summary:

Rainforest Alliance seeks to engage a committed individual as an Internal Compliance Manager, Africa.  The Internal Compliance Manager is responsible for contractual and corporate compliance within their respective organizational portfolio. The role holder is responsible for cradle-to-grave management of the grant agreements and associated subrecipients. The position facilitates monitoring and capacity building to Rainforest Alliance partners and works with all offices within their portfolio to complete internal compliance review and monitor counties’ achievements on their improvement plans.

Responsibilities:

  • The Rainforest Alliance’s Core Values are Impact, Change, Collaboration, Openness and Trust and as such they form the basis of the behaviours we demonstrate:
  • Provide compliance guidance to and train project teams on donor requirements and regulations and organize kick-off calls for all new projects in the region;
  • Monitor and actively complete mandated donor requirements and regulations. (i.e. approvals, due diligence requirements, etc.);
  • Negotiate, draft, and review grants, subgrants, NDAs, MOUs, and consultant agreements and associated modifications;
  • Complete risk assessments, monitor, and help ensure capacity building to Rainforest Alliance Partners;
  • Monitor Rainforest Alliance offices within their portfolio to ensure they comply with organizational and national compliance requirements through Internal Compliance Reviews;
  • Develop and monitor internal capacity building plans for Rainforest Alliance country offices in the region;
  • Write national and regional policies as necessary;
  • Maintain expertise on current donor, institutional, and national compliance requirements;
  • Facilitate, communicate, and monitor compliance requirements within project teams;
  • Advise Global Internal Compliance Director and Regional Directors on issues related to non-compliance with Rainforest Alliance Policies & Procedures by country office personnel, as well as anticipate issues that may affect the delivery of Global Internal Compliance services;
  • Explain the process, guidelines, and requirements for donor, institutional, and national compliance requirements to staff and managers to strengthen general compliance across the country offices in the region;
  • Coordinate with Regional Directors, Country Directors, and F&A managers on Internal Compliance Reviews and work with local teams on internal capacity building plans;
  • Maintain up-to-date agreement records within SalesForce;
  • Drafts, reviews, and approves agreements for portfolio;
  • Maintains and monitors Rainforest Alliance’s compliance to donor requirements within portfolio;
  • Maintains and monitors Rainforest Alliance’s compliance to organizational policies within portfolio;
  • Serves as a key institutional resource for staff and management on donor and organizational compliance; and
  • Trains staff and partners on grants management within portfolio or organizationally as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or equivalent. Master’s Degree, or equivalent experience preferred;
  • 8 years’ contracts and grants administration experience specifically with grants to non-profits from public agencies (Government or multilateral, i.e., UN, GEF, IKI, BMU, USAID, among others);
  • 5 years’ agreements review and writing experience;
  • 5 years’ general experience in administration of database management;
  • 4 years’ experience in Financial system support (such as Concur);
  • Practical experience of using Finance &Administration systems;
  • Excellent computer, communication, planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to multitask and cope with changing priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Willingness and ability to work to meet tight deadlines;
  • Verbal and written fluency in English is a must.

Senior Training Officer (Customer Care/Customer Success)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Training Officer in the Customer Operational Service (COS) Team is responsible for supporting primarily the Customer Care team (within Data & Tech), acting as a trainer and training expert. The goal is to provide guidance, support and to facilitate training to all the customer facing units. The Senior Training Officer is also responsible for structuring and utilizing the company’s knowledge to improve the overall Customer Experience. Relationship management and customer satisfaction are guiding principles in this work.

The COS unit is part of the Data & Tech department which provides guidance, services and digital tools to producers and companies, enabling them to join our programs, achieve certification, monitor progress, trade and make sustainability claims, and generally handle their supply chains and responsible sourcing relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors the established Training approach (Learning Cycle) that supports our consistent and timely response to inquiries, contributing to the overall Customer Experience:
    • Measure the performance of customer facing teams
    • Gather feedback & review for improvement
  • Ensure RA Trainers and staff have the knowledge they need to provide the best service to our customers:
    • Create training materials (eg: bite size trainings and video creation) with the Subject Matter Expert as applicable
    • Plan & host or facilitate training, workshops or case study sessions and followup in line with the training curriculum and learning approach
    • Deliver and facilitate training internally & externally as needed
  • Owner of the Rainforest Alliance Certification Platform (RACP) training curriculum
  • Support the standardization, version control & publication of all training materials in the relevant portals (such as our Learning Platform (LMS- called the Rainforest Alliance Learning Network) and the Knowledge Base) in collaboration with the Senior Training Officer/ Senior Customer Procedure Officer and other training teams as relevant
  • Support the onboarding structure for Customer Care

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with technologies and best practices for instructional manuals, teaching platforms, materials designs and video editing
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills in English, facilitation skills
  • Mission: Knowledge of sustainability practices, a passion for environmental issues and experience with certification in sustainable agriculture and/or forestry preferred
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel, including internationally
