Junior Analyst – Cape Town
Responsibilities:
- The position of a Junior Analyst is a multifaceted one which requires verbal communications skills, writing skills, research skills, analytical abilities, and financial acumen. This also includes being proficient with Microsoft office tools such as Excel and PowerPoint and being used to working with databases. S&P Global provides hands-on training in an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and emphasizes client service. The candidate will ideally possess a comprehensive understanding of the Financial Markets, Securities Trading and Shareholder Meetings, especially their preparation.
- The candidate will be familiar with how Proxy Advisers work and how their recommendations can impact vote outcome.
- The candidate will work in the team of the regional director who s/he reports to and supports with research and reports. The candidate will work closely with other team members within Issuer Solutions in our global offices to support Senior Analysts/project leads and to help ensure quality services to clients.
The desired candidate will:
- Support project leads with clients’ corporate governance research and shareholder communication campaigns in relation to AGMs, EGMs, M&A and other corporate action type events.
- Drafting bespoke research reports for clients which will require research and analysis of shareholder meeting agenda items.
- Undertake engagement (via calls/emails) with institutional shareholders to discuss AGMs/EGMs to solicit intentions on meeting agenda or transactional sentiment.
- Develop an understanding of proxy voting mechanics and corporate governance standards across multiple regions.
- Maintain several databases containing contact information and proprietary data (including data research, -collection and quality checks).
- Survey institutional shareholders to collect research data to write an annual report which discusses trends in ESG and proxy voting.
What we’re looking for:
- University degree required.
- Advanced level in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi and familiar with handling and structuring large amount of data. Any additional skills in the field of data analysis (i.e. writing macros – VBA) are a plus.
- A prior corporate governance related work experience of 1-2 years.
- Excellent attention to detail, efficient workload management and strict commitment to deadlines.
- Strong analytical and interpretation skills.
- Fluent in English and optional German, French, Mandarin.
Data Analyst Operations – Cape Town
Duties and Responsibilities:
- You will be a key member of the S&P Global Data Operations team. Reporting into the local Data Ops management team, you will be part of our database maintenance team, that ensures the information we are making public to our clients, is the most up to date and accurate version we have access to.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- 70% of your time will be spent on the phone, trying to source or validate the information
- Web researching and analyzing information
- Capturing this data into our internal app
- Coming up with innovative solutions in order to keep our processes as efficient as they can be
Job Requirements:
- You are detail orientated person, that can make fast decisions based on what you gather through your research process.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written command of the English and/or French or Italian language
- As this is a calling team, so you must be able to ask probing questions on calls in order to get as much detailed information as possible and should not be easily deterred.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships
- Must be very detail-oriented and able to capture this information into our internal app using S&P Global research and style guidelines
- Good online research skills and the ability to analyze existing sources of information as well as find new ones.
- Comfortable navigating official registries and experience with data entry is advantageous.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and be flexible to adapt to changes in a fast-paced working environment
- Knowledge of the buy-side or capital markets a plus but not required
Investor Relations Analyst – Stock Surveillance (Cape Town)
We’re looking for an Analyst, within the Investor Relations division to:
- Support clients with intelligence about their institutional investors and what is driving trading in equity markets.
- Provide clients with targeting intelligence on institutional investors in conjunction with their investor relations outreach efforts.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the investor relations and executive teams of publicly traded companies.
- Follow public equity markets and update clients about events affecting individual stocks, specific sectors, and the broader economy.
- Identify leading institutional buyers and sellers of clients’ stocks, and provide insight, color and context around the movements.
- Connect with buy-side institutional portfolio managers and trading desks to gain insights on investment strategy and trading.
- Participate in the growth and improvement of the team’s service offering to clients.
Your team:
- You will be working within our Investor Relations division focused on our Surveillance and Targeting offerings. The team is located across the globe with offices in New York, Raleigh (North Carolina), Cape Town, Hong Kong, London, Toronto and Buenos Aires.
- The Surveillance and Targeting division is broken down into ten sector teams that cover the North American market and two regional teams in APAC and EMEA. Each team is headed up by at least one Director that has over 10 years of financial industry experience with team members of all levels actively contributing to the team’s success. In addition, our division currently offers a flexible work-from-home policy with most analysts working in a hybrid environment.
You have:
- 0-5 years of financial experience or in a related field
- “Dual-threat” skills with both strong quantitative and qualitative talent
- Analytical reasoning ability as well as effective speaking and written communication skills (proficient in the English language)
- Collaborative skill set that allows you to work within a dynamic and inclusive team
- An ability to analyze data and absorb new information in an enthusiastic, fast-paced environment
- Comfort with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with S&P Cap IQ Pro a plus
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of capital markets
- Aptitude to learn internal proprietary applications

Engagement Manager

Responsibilities:
- Manage the First line (“front door”) triage of any requests from business lines.
- Responsible for information gathering and qualification of incoming requests to drive engagement triage and routing through the Business Engagement process.
- Coordinate engagement between business line and Solutions owners to ensure scope, timeline and outcomes are aligned.
- Project managing larger engagements with internal business lines from inception to completion. Facilitating the communication of new requests and updates on existing product requests between product management and business lines to ensure new requirements are captured, qualified, and delivered.
- Post-delivery, maintain relationship, follow up with business lines to get feedback / lessons learnt as well as identifying future work and product requirements. (Similar to an account manager type role, but for internal business lines).

- Should be able to mentor and guide more junior team members.
- Proactive, self-starter and motivated – should be able to manage their own workload effectively and drive onboarding projects to completion.
- Ability to work with various global teams (technical and non-technical), including product management, business, data governance, third party data suppliers, data engineering, development, and operations.
